Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ himself:
Brother Thormodson,
This morning I appear to be speechless in writing and that is highly unusual. Every fiber within me says, "we need to meet." So prayerfully I will lay out what has been placed upon the hearts of those in our small group study. We shall see where the Lord leads from there.
There exists within the church and its ministry a rather large chasm when it comes to connecting with people on a daily basis and especially during their hour of need. More properly said, the church doors are locked except for regular business hours and pre-scheduled events. Yes, members and non-members alike are free to call a pastor at home but let us get real about this; during an hour of need people prefer to be with others they know and have spent extended time with on a personal level.
Within the makeup of every congregation there are certain social clicks or members that already feel they belong to a sub-group. The key word there is belong.
Our small group has been led to pray for and consider those who do not belong. After all, is not the commission of the church to find the lost? We are speaking of those who sit in the pew alone, those who only attend on a sporadic basis, and even those who have no current church home but are looking, searching, needing to be accepted for who they are sans judgment. What better way to lead them to the Lord and into a church home than to provide a place (often referred to as a third place) where they can build relationships with believers? This place must be one that has an open door because life's problems, or the basic human need to connect, rarely happens during normal business hours.
The idea that has been placed upon our hearts is best conveyed in person and not through a blog. My prayer is that enough food for thought has been given here to inspire you to entertain a meeting time. As a reference of who I am, simply place a call to SID President Mueller.
God's Peace,
Bro Matthew
